Phil Hellmuth’s 2008 WSOP Grand Entrance
Phil Hellmuth, commonly known as the Poker Brat, is a master at self-marketing. The man is truly brilliant and knows how to keep the media attention on himself – whether the publicity is good or bad, he’ll take it. Off the felt, he is regarded as one of the nicest players in poker and an all-around stand-up guy.
In preparation for his 2007 WSOP Main Event grand entrance, Hellmuth wrecked his NASCAR vehicle into a light pole. While he was unable to drive the NASCAR into the Rio, he still arrived in his race gear. In 2008 he managed to avoid accidents and showed up a very patriotic 11-star General. Wait, you ask what an 11-star General is? In poker that is a General with 11 WSOP bracelets.
Hellmuth rode in to the Rio in an authentic Army jeep with poker player Mark Kroon and eleven fatigues-clad ladies following behind in a personnel carrier. Hellmuth joined over 2,000 other players who started their 2008 WSOP Main Event on Day 1d which was the largest of the four days.
