Players Gear Up for 2008 World Series of Poker
Visitors to the World Series of Poker website are greeted with a countdown with the famous words “Shuffle Up and Deal in 15 Days”. That’s right, poker players from around the world will be gathering in Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2008 World Series of Poker. The first event for the 2008 tournament will be the World Championship Pot Limit Hold’em Event 1 on May 30.
This three-day event requires a $10,000 buy-in and players will each begin with $20,000 in chips with blinds starting at $100-$200. The 2007 event featured 398 players with poker super star Alan Cunningham taking down the nearly $500,000 prize.
The 2008 WSOP events will continue until the Main Event begins on Thursday, July 3, 2008. As previously mentioned here on Poker Mom, the 2008 WSOP Final Table will not be held until November 9 and 10th in order to create an even bigger buzz in the media and among poker players and fans around the world.
